I am glad I didn't load Windows 7 on my Flex Radio Computer since it will not work with the SDR software at this time. My wife has a desktop running Vista Premium that she bought in the first part of February this year, too early for the free Windows 7 upgrade since February 26, 2009 was the cutoff. Anyway, we purchased the upgrade at a local retailer and installed it on her PC. It performs well with fancy manipulation of open web pages and documents which remain in the task bar until needed. There is plenty of "Eye Candy' and gadjets she likes with some great screen backgrounds etc. She likes the better video and photo editing features since with the firewire connection, her camcorder plugs in and soon she can begin editing. The AVG antivirus automatically downloaded updates for it to perform with Windows 7.
Just to see how Flex Radio would work with this new operating system, I loaded the
software on her computer where you can only use it to receive by using pre-made WAV files recorded off the air by Flex Radio and simulates the real thing. After loading the latest Flex Console software and clicking to open it, a message popped up saying "Error Communicating to the Radio". It has already been mentioned on the Flex Radio web site forum and it shouldn't be too long until they find a workaround to get it going. I will go ahead and order the free Windows 7 for my ham radio PC since luckliy I bought it in March of this year, 2009.

Please see my last entry on this page where it now works well with Windows 7.

Hiya AL

I'm glad that you mentioned this issue concerning Windows 7.

We sell various Flex SDR rigs at the radio emporium where I work, so we will have to keep an eye open for that one.

Do please let us know if any 'fixes' turn up.

Hmm, I was just wondering if any other PC controlled rigs will be affected by this new offering from Microsoft?

Thank you Mike and yes, my Flex 5000A now runs great with the Windows 7 64 bit PC. I jumped the gun when I made that first post and from now on will wait since Flex Radio is always on the ball. These new QUAD 4 computers running 64 bit are very fast and can run multiple items such as logging, MixW Digital etc. I had a problem with latency, especially on CW and when tuning in stations and discovered it was my wireless internet causing it. The internet is necessary when logging since I enjoy seeing the other stations QRZ page when entering his call. By using a direct CAT5 LAN cable from my router and removing the wireless PCI card, everything straightened out well.
