Whiterook Product MK-48 Twin Morse Key

This is another 'twin' key, but the paddle section is the primary useable part of it. Althought there is a straight key, it is not exactly the best.

The straight key, although looking good from above, is in reality a tactile click switch below. It is possible, with some practice to send using the straight key, it takes much concentration to do so. You cannot set the gap or tension on the straight key, and also, there is a gap below the arm. What this means is that when you begin to depress the key, the first millimeter or so of travel does nothing to actually operate the switch. Then, when the arm maks contact with the switch there is another 0.5mm or so of travel before the switch clicks shut. #at best you can send at maybe 10-12wpm but with some effort due to the odd characteristics of the key. I would say it is more of a novelty than anything.

The paddle section is reasonable, but as with the straight key section you cannot set the tension or gap, these are both preset by the layout and materials used.

The rear acrylic post has only one screw holding in in place, and can twist off centre if the key gets knocked, leaving one contact permanently closed,or at least an unequal gap.

Once set up accurately the paddle section is reasonably useable, but I would not recommend one as an only key, and although small and light, due to the reliabilty and 'quirks' of this key it could prove more of a liability than of practical value if used portable.
