Ten Tec Jupiter

I have a Ten-Tec Jupiter that I have not used in a year or so. I tried to used it last night and the output power is low. On 20m it would only put out about 16 Watts. Anyone seen this before? I was hoping it may be a know failure that I can address without sending this into Ten-Tec. I haven't open the case yet but I'll post more once I do.

Hiya Kenneth,

Sorry to hear that your TT Jupiter is not doing too well.

I had a look around the web and from what I read the Jupiter PA is pretty well bomb proof, so I'm wondering if it might just be a control setting that's a little out perhaps.

I've done silly things myself when I've gone to use a set that I haven't 'driven' for a while.

There is an auto-tuner (optional) in that rig, so it could it be that it's tuning from memory (from a memory bin) and because of that you're getting a mismatch causing the radio to roll back the power.

Is it only on one mode (if so which) or all of them, and have you tried the set into a dummy load etc.

Another fault I've come across with some transceivers is that the fuse holders oxidize over time, so when you try to draw lots of amps through the power lead you end up with four or five volts drop across the fuse holders and so end up with a lower than usual OP power (IC-7000's suffer with this a lot).
