Qrt - Last Day Of 500Khz In France

It's a wonderful idea to provide audio files of the transmissions - they tell you something about the quality and speed of the morse that was sent. Just a bit too fast for me to head copy and it's in French anyway but that was great to listen to. Facts are a necessary part of history, as are the recollections of the people who were there, but for operations themselves you can't beat hearing what actually passed on the airwaves.

All of the decode files appear to be on the linked page too. A lot of what was there seemed to be actual ongoing traffic, not just 'good bye' messages.

The QRT 500kcs DVD mentioned elsewhere on here is better in that it is all English. It's quite a moving/sad DVD really, it makes you realise what a useful system it was, and how many operators and staff were involved with it.

I've spoken to a few ex Radio Officers (R.O.) over the years and have always found them to be really interesting to talk to, and full of information and useful tips.

I purchased a couple of Morse Keys from one such R.O. a few years back, and we had no end of email rag chewing about Marine Radio and Morse operating in general.

Here's the link for the company selling the DVD on the last hour of the UK 500kcs Maritime Radio Service.

I'm not sure if these are true commercially made DVDs now, or still individually burnt disks.

Mine is one of the original ones they sold, with a home copied DVD and the cover was reproduced from a hand drawn image. This newer one has at least changed the cover to a colour one, but to be honest, the hand drawn one better reflected the contents of the DVD.

I just had a look at the site again, and I see that it mentions the disk was remastered in 2010. Also, I have a feeling they may have added more material, so maybe the new cover does reflect the contents after all.
