A year ago I decided to try to relearn Worked all states in CW.  It's taken forever to get Alaska.  My last one.  Yesterday I heard Alaska.  I tried for 20 min with my 891 and 100 w.  No go.  Finally before I gave up I turned on my KX2 at 4 watts.  She heard me and we made the exchange.  Amazing.  That 4 watts did over 3000 miles and got me a 449.

It's a bit puzzling :-*

Is there any chance there may have been an offset of some kind programmed in to the 891 that you might have not noticed?

The only other thought I had was maybe you just happened to get lucky with the propagation and managed to catch it just as it peaked (while using the QRP rig).

Either way it's always interesting to see how well you manage with your QRP endeavours. bd

Well...my 891 is in my truck using a vertical hamstick.  My KX2 is at my house using a sloping EF antenna up 15 feet.  I?m thinking it?s the antenna.
