QRP and Portable

this is probably my favorite topic here, is the QRP/P. I have two End-Fedz, a 40m and a 20m, made by Par Electronics, they work great. Anyone do the portable stuff?

I have a great desire to do portable QRP/p stuff. Just built a PVC encased 'Bazooka' dipole and a now tweaking on it - trying to get 6 meters tuned in. The PVC pipe has changed the velocity factor of the RG-8x and thusly detuned it. Did get it down to 3:1 SWR at 50.3 MHz though! Height above ground was about 6 feet when I checked it.

This antenna will be collapsible and hopefully accompany me on outings into the wilderness. Weighs in at 2.5 lbs. Rig is IC 703.

Hello -

I too am a QRPer. I am presently using a KX-1 and an OHR-100A. I also have the Par End-Fed 10-20-40 and it is a wonderful little antenna. I am strictly a wireman at this point using a G5RV and a recently built and put up inverted V for 40M. Plans are for a 20 and a 30M dipole.

I have pretty good luck at the city square and at the Big Hill Lake with end fed wires or a Norcal doublet on a 20 ft crappie pole. de Paul N0NBD

I've been interested in QRP for, well 48 years now.
Done a lot of Motorcycle Mobile, which in reality was always "portable".
Except for 2m FM, I never transmitted or received while riding.

Accomplishments include taking first place (overall) in Europe once in the QRP class of CW Field Day contest.
Used a Ten-Tec Argonaut 509 and a doublet, center-fed with 300 Ohm (TV) openwire.
The antenna was supported in the middle by a fiberglass telescoping mast, 30 ft. high, yet collapsible down to just 3.5 ft. for transporting on the bike.

The secret to success here is GET THE ANTENNA UP AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE.
These fiberglass poles are outstanding for this.
I have switched to using a 40 ft. pole now.
It's about the same length when collapsed, just a little thicker and heavier.

I also have some PAL Electronics End-Fed Dipoles (I find that a misnomer - it should be end-fed half-wave wire).
I run the PAL vertical along the fiberglass pole for 20m.
For 30, and 40m I run it as an inverted-L, off to a convenient tree.
My pole is made by Spiderbeam.
