I'm born in Cologne, Germany in 1964 and I'm still living in a small village in the west of Cologne until today. In the 1970-years I was very active on the citizen-band with my Grundig CBH 2000 and was very interested in becoming a radio-amateur. But I thought I would not pass the exam which seemed to me to be very challenging. I never loose my interest for the amateur radio-licence. In 2020 the COVID-Pandemie brought a very hard cut for my other hobbies and I learned that there is a very active radio-amateur-club just some miles away. The IGA G40, member of the German-Radio-Amateur-Club DARC. The OM and YL in this club conviced me to spend all my time in learning for the US-licenses technican, general and amateur-extra. At this time, there was an exam planed by the local ARRL VE-Team for mid June 2020 and I had only 4 weeks for practising. Exams for the german licenses where stopped at this time and were terminated until winter 2020. To my big surprise I passed all three exams on first attempt and became US-amateur AJ6OZ at the end of June 2020. Two weeks later this US-license was approved by the german authorities and I reached my 30-years-goal when I became DK1GP in July 2020.
I have currently more than 14.000 QSO in my Logbook as DK1GP. In December 2020 I operated the special Call DL40PUL with more than 800 QSO in 4 weeks and in 2024 I operated DL1ABTEI and logged 4.444 QSOs in 12 months.
I got actually 214 DXCC-entities confirmed and won the DARC Deutschland-Diplom 500 on the 80 meter band and a lot of other HAM-Diploma.
I should mention here that I'm currently practising CW to get the chance to work with the full scope of modes in the radio-amateur-world. And of course I have re-activeted my old Grundig CH 2000 with a Sirio Gainmaster vertical antenna and it works really good - 40 years after my parents had bought it for me.
My equipment is actually an ICOM IC-7300, an ICOM, IC-9700, IC-275H and the IC-705 for POTA activities. a XIEGU G90 with the XIEGU XPA125B, an ANYTONE 578 and 878.
I'm a great fan of the (Tr)uSDX QRP-Transceiver and operate two of this kind with great fun.
Since 2024 I am proud owner of a National RJX-1011D Tube-Transceiver. This 40 years old monument of amateur radio heritage is impressive to work with an gets very good RST-reports from every other station.
I currently use an WIMO Endfed 80/40/20/15/10 with great success, a Moxxon for 10m and a HB9CV for the 6m-band and a smaller hybrid HB9CV for 2m/70cm and the DIAMOND X300PL vertical for2m/70cm local analoge and digital operations. Im very satisfied with my MC-750 portable antenna for POTA-activations which is very fast to assemble and tune,
Since 2024 I enjoy POTA and initialized 4 new parks in the surrounding of Cologne which where all activated first time by me. Today I have 43 activations with more than 680 QSO in the last 18 months.
Beeing member of the ARRL since 2020 I applied in 2024 for becoming official Volunteer Examiner (VE) and was accredited two month later bei the ARRL-VEC. I serve as team liasion officer for the "VE-Team Germany West" and have administered 4 sessions until today.
