I am a volunteer examiner for the AERO Amateur Radio Club in Middle River, Maryland where other examiners get together 6 times a year at a local Library for testing. Over the past few years, many new Hams received their first license because of the club. With the abundance of books and internet information not to mention the many sample tests online, we have seen perhaps 90 per cent of applicants pass. Of course Morse Code is no longer required as part of licensing but the club suggests applicants attempt to learn the code since if you listen on the bands, especially 20, 40 and 80 Metres, there has been an increase in it's use. A nominal fee of $14 is charged which pays for paper and other costs. If a person passes the Technician class exam, they are encouraged to take the General and Extra while there which is included in the $14 cost. You will find many links on the club's web site: VE Testing Page.
