Fun CW Weekend !

Wow, the ARRL DX CW contest was a lot of CW signals this weekend !!  I know, the world having to work just the US/VE is kind of "one way", but I guess it's no different than the JIDX contest :-)

A friend in Alaska, which counts as DX for this contest, said she worked 48 states just operating 20m !  I finally got through the pileup on her KW signal...  The high-power US stations had their beams aimed at Europe, I heard that 15 was open , too.

My 20m EFHW wire thrown out in the nearby tree off our front porch isn't the best antenna, but running 100w (TenTec Eagle) I managed to work 21 countries in a few hours on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, also just on 20m.  I broke a number of pileups on DX stations by using the RIT and calling about 130 Hz above or below the mass that was almost zerobeat with the DX.

Lots of the "big gun" DX stations were sending at 30 wpm and faster so it was good practice and fun to work fast CW.  Here is a list of the countries I worked: EA7, EA8, FM5, FY5, HI0, HP3, JA, KH6, KL7, KP2, KP4, LU, KP4, P44, PJ2, PY2, TI2, V31, VP5, XE1, ZF1.

I didn't get on until after 1900Z both days so most of the Europe propagation was over for my station, I heard mostly Caribbean, SA and Pacific.

Lots of good CW fun :-)

I just noticed this.  Looked you up and it looks like we have worked twice this past July.  20 and 40m.  Neat to see you on here!
