Flex Radio 1500

I have been waiting for this unit to come on the market for a long time and Flex Radio just announced they are ready after extensive testing. This QRP rig operates from a USB cable instead of the Firewire 1394a required on their models 5000A and 3000. It operates 160 through 6 meters with all other features since it depends on the same software that my 5000A requires. It can actually operate from the USB connection when using very low power but requires external 13 volts for operating at 5 watts. Delivery will be sometime in December and in my shack, will be used for VHF/UHF/Microwave operations using the Elecraft transverters for the 144, 220 and 432 Mhz bands using 28 MHz for the I.F. There is a company in Germany, Khune Electronics that can make PLL units for the transverter oscillators which will lock with the same reference as the 1500 (10 MHz). It wouldn't make sense to have extreme stability and accuracy on the 1500 while using ordinary crystal oscillators in the transverters. The 1296 transverter made by Downeast Microwave will have it's oscillator locked by a JWM Engineering unit using 144 MHz as it's I.F..
Update February 17, 2010: Flex Radio just announced their Flex 1500 QRP units are ready to ship since they took the first one with Serial Number 1 to Orlando, Florida on Feb 12, 13 14, 2010 at the Hamcation event. Will post information after I receive my 1500 since it was ordered in early December, 2009 and expect delivery sometime in March. This QRP transceiver should work with most laptops running Windows XP and up.
