While visiting the local branch of B&Q (DIY store), I noticed they were having a clear out of wooden floor samples.
These samples normally sell for around ?3.75 up to ?5.00 which is a bit on the steep side to say the least.
However, in order to dispose of these items the price had been reduded to 50p each at some point, and then reduced even more to just 5p (about 8 cents) each!
Although there were some laminated samples, many were solid hardwoods, mainly Teak or Oak. The narrower samples are ideal to make bases for Morse keys with a little trimming and shaping of the edges, whereas the wide samples are large enough for even KOB usage, or perhaps fitting a straight key and a paddle key on the same base.
In all I aquired 29 samples, with about 2/3 of them being Oak and the rest Teak.
Unlike some pieces of 'solid' wood I've seen for sale, these really are composed of just one piece of wood each, not small blocks glued together as in some examples.
