My name is Kenny Sallee, aka Cap'n Kenny. I'm currently living outside of Oconto, Wisconsin which is about 35 miles north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. I'm retired from the US military after 23 years of service. I also served the United States as a civil servant with the Department of Defense (US Army & US Air Force) and the Department of Transportation (Federal Aviation Administration) in the field of Avionics. I am married to the love of my life and best friend that I first met in 1971, Barbara Pesicka. Together we are know as Barbie & Ken. We spend the warm months cruising the Great Lakes on our Chris-Craft Roamer and I serve the boating community as Rear Commodore of our yacht club. I've been out of the ham radio hobby since the late 1990s and sold everything before moving into a motorhome where we lived and traveled the US for 8 years. I found this forum when searching for parts for an aviation VHF handheld that I used to carry while flying for the Civil Air Patrol back in the early 1990s. I also used to be a member of AF MARS, call sign AFA4IV. Besides carring an amateur radio license, I also carry a commercial General Radiotelephone Operators License with radar endorsement.

Retired US Military (1970-1996)
Retired US Civil Service (DoD & DoT)
Vietnam Veteran (1971-1972)
Helicopter Doorgunner (1971-1972)
Full-time RVer (2003-2011)
Great Lakes Yacht Captain (2005 to Present)
Rear Commodore - Oconto Yacht Club

Hiya Kenny (and Barbara), and welcome to the forum! 😛

What can I say, what a C.V. you have there. I really smiled when I read that you were once a helicopter door gunner! I bet there's not too many folks that can say that. I've seen lots of news reels, and movies about 'nam, and a number of times I've pondered as to where they all are now. Now we know where at least one is... Captain of a fine vessel (I took a look at the site you mention in your signature at the bottom of your post).

It also occurred to me that when you get back in to Radio you will certainly have a good 'ground' plane with all of that water beneath you. It'll be great for HF low angle working.

Don't think that you are restricted to talking Ham Radio on here, since the "Rag Chew" section is just that, for discussing pretty well anything within reason, so by all means drop by from time to time and 'say your penny worth'.

I'm sorry I couldn't reply sooner to your post, my hard drive gave up the ghost in my PC and I spent a frantic few hours digging through all of my junk to find one that could act as a temporary fix for my machine. Then a slow process of transferring all of the data from one to another.

I'm glad you're enjoying your retirement, though you sound just as active as when you were in the armed forces etc.

Once again Kenny, thanks for dropping by ;)

73, Mark.
