HI! I'm looking for an old halo that my dad had on his 1955 ford when I was young. It was a three element round horizontal loop that my dad bought new from some where? I have been looking on the internet for days with no luck. If someone has so info please let me know. DON N5XOF

Hiya Don! 😊

Hmm... The only halo that I can think of that has three sections is called a "Big Wheel" antenna.

The Big Wheel is a halo with three half waves (maybe full waves?) fed in parallel.

Here's a picture of four of them stacked for more gain: http://www.arrl.org/.../large/5659.jpg

If it is the correct one, and you need the design, then let me know. I have the design details and dimensions in a number of books here.

Best 73, Mark.

I did a GOOGLE search for you and found this YOUTUBE video describing the Saturn 6 Metre Halo used in 1962 which may be the same one? It doesn't operate on 2 metres however. I used a 6 Metre Halo in 1964 using a Layfayette HE45 6 Metre AM rig running about 20 watts or so. Made a lot of contacts with it. Here is the YouTube video: 6 Metre Halo 1962

Thank-you very much! I think it also was in the QST magazine. I'll look in to it. signed DON N5XOF
