40m buzzing sound

Spent some time around my QTH looking for the source of a terrible buzzing sound S9 between 7030-7040Khz, but after checking the web sdr in the Netherlands, I see the problem is general - please see attached printscreen.

It's a huge source of interference apparently centered around 6990Khz, and spreading into the 40m amateur band. Has anyone heard this before? It's very strong and annoying too. It must be something very powerful, to make this much noise in such a wide area.

If anyone has info about the root cause, I'd like to know. Hope it will be gone soon.

Just had a look here at my nearest web SDR site http://hackgreensdr.org:8901/

The wide signal is also visible and strong here. 7027-7045 and 7178-7195.

I can't see outside of 40m as the web SDR concerned does not extend coverage outside of 40m.

Listening to it on AM it sounds very much like an analogue TV signal!

Completely wiped out an attempt to send an email to a Winlink mailbox on 40m for me too yesterday, 20dB over S9 here in NI, so massive output somewhere...

Is it still fashionable to blame the Russians?

At the moment nothing showing on Hack Green SDR, but it will be interesting to see what it's like after dark tonight when the long distance stations start rolling in again.

It might be that it was just some brute force jamming signal and what we were seeing was harmonics or spurious signals from the transmitter. You only need a few watts of garbage piped up some of those huge directional arrays around the world to crush everything in its path!

I wouldn't be surprised if it's just some cheap mains adapter from eBay! ) ) )

I remember hearing buzzing sounds covering several khz on the 40m band since the early 80s in Italy, when I was a simple SWL!
